Share the Plate Program
Share the Plate Program

Each summer the "Share the Plate" coordinators invite the Congregation to submit nominees for the "Share the Plate" program. Nine charities are chosen for the year and then approved by the Board of Trustees.  Once a month from September through June the collection plate is shared with the local nonprofit group for that month. Often Adult RE will hold a class so members can learn more about the organization or the Worship that day may also be related to the organization.

These organizations were chosen because they reflect our mission in the surrounding community in helping other others who are less fortunate. Please check the website listed for each if you would like to volunteer or learn more about these worthy groups.

HOW TO HELP

In 2010-2011, Samuel Angol and Erika Lohmus organize "Share the Plate" and help write the article blurbs that appear each month in the Justice News.

Share the Plate - 2009-2010
Share the Plate Summary 2009-2010

Our Share-the-Plate program continues to be popular and both raises money and awareness within the congregation for the important mission of the UU Faith in support of charities that are in our area. From September to May each year, we split any non-designated funds in the plate to support a worthy 501(c)3 organization.

Share the Plate

The "Share-the-Plate" Program needs YOUR suggestions for charities for the Upcoming Year! We also are seeking one or two folks - who can really take ownership and have enthusiasm for why we do it - to organize the names list, write the monthly Share-the-Plate summaries, and be a part of the Social Justice Coordination Committee to report on Share the Plate.

We need to start thinking of suggestions for the new Share-the-Plate year, which will start September 2010 and run once per month until May 2011. These organizations are chosen as they reflect our mission in the surrounding community in helping others less fortunate than us.

The First Unitarian Church of Orlando will designate one Sunday per month as "Share-the-Plate Sunday," on which the non-pledge worship service collections are split evenly between FUCO and a designated non-profit group [501(c)3] whose mission is consistent with that of FUCO and/or the UUA. Members or groups within the congregation may make nominations for a designee, with the final decision being approved by the Board of Trustees.

Promotion for Share-the-Plate groups will be done by the party whose proposal was accepted by the BOT. Please Note: if your suggested group is accepted, we need you to promote and educate our congregation through Adult RE and brochures or discussion. Many times brochures and help are available from the non-profit group. Most non-profits have been kind enough to send out someone to represent their organization and (along with the suggesting member) educate us during the Adult RE class before the service on the Share-the-Plate date. Promotion for two weeks prior is suggested and expected in order to get the results needed for the success of the program.

Please email your "Share-the-Plate" suggestions or your desire to coordinate "Share the Plate" to Dan Homblette, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
