First Unitarian Church of Orlando is seeking an interim (1 year) Program and Office Assistant to work 20 hours a week in partnership with the Church Administrator and under the supervision of the Minister. The primary duty is to assist with administrative tasks related to the church office and the programs of the congregation. Position requires direct coordination with the Minister, the Church Administrator, other staff and lay leaders, and congregational volunteers. Program/Office Assistant Job Description (Printer Friendly Version)

First Unitarian Church of Orlando is seeking an interim (1 year) Program and Office Assistant to work 20 hours a week in partnership with the Church Administrator and under the supervision of the Minister. Position may be extended and/or employee may be eligible for a permanent position in the future.

The primary duty is to assist with administrative tasks related to the church office and the programs of the congregation. Position requires direct coordination with the Minister, the Church Administrator, other staff and lay leaders, and congregational volunteers.

Duties of the Program/Office Assistant

  • Be present on Sunday mornings (10 am – 1 pm) to serve as key point person for volunteers and staff. Tasks include activities such as assisting with: signing up volunteers, problem solving, responding to questions and scheduling requests, and insuring programs are running smoothly.
  • Assist with coordinating volunteers and activities and provide resources and support for programming.
  • Assist with office administrative duties such as scheduling of room use; addressing queries from both members and non-members looking for information; data entry/maintaining statistics; and email communication.
  • Assist with communication via social media, the website, and regular e-blasts.
  • Assist the Minister, Church Administrator, or other staff or lay leaders (when so instructed) with special projects.
  • Attend special events on Saturdays and evenings on occasion as required.
  • Provide a cheerful presence.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent people skills including the ability to welcome and encourage people as well as the ability to set boundaries when needed.
  • High level of knowledge and experience with technology including database entry and social media.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to take direction and understand needs.
  • Self-direction and ability to manage tasks without micromanagement.
  • Strong collaboration skills. This position is part of the larger ministry team of the congregation and includes working closely with committees and church staff on both routine and special events.
  • Respect for Unitarian Universalist principles and values. (Our Principles)
  • Able to pass the Florida background check.
  • Preference for a minimum of 1 year experience coordinating volunteers

Salary and Benefits: The Program Assistant works an average of twenty hours per week. The pay range is $15/hour and partial benefits in the areas of life insurance and disability.
