Job Summary

First Unitarian Church of Orlando is creating five new part-time jobs, “Building Hosts,” who will be on campus to help people or groups that have booked a room or part of the facility for an event such as a wedding, meeting, or concert. The host will assist the users and make sure church property and equipment are operated properly.

There are five Building Host jobs. One will also serve as leader. The church administrator will contact him or her when there is a booking, and the leader will then accept the assignment or line up one of the other hosts to handle it. 

The Building Hosts will work as needed when contacted about a booking. He or she will answer to the church administrator. 

Essential Duties
  • Open the room or space 15 minutes before the booking time and stay for the duration. Lock up 15 minutes after it’s slated to conclude.
  • Ensure any needed air/heating adjustments are made.
  • Confirm all needed equipment, i.e., extension cords or projector, are available to the user and, once the event concludes, properly stored. 
  • Other duties as needed. 
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • The applicant should be an active member of 1U.
  • The applicant must be willing to work evenings and weekends. 
  • The applicant should have a general familiarity with 1U’s campus and buildings.
  • Preferred: Applicants with problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills. Previous customer service experience would be ideal.
  • The position requires a three-hour training session that will cover key and keypad use, AC/heat operation, the location of specific church rooms, the equipment available in each room, and how to use the equipment, including the microphone in Gore Hall. 
  • The applicant should have respect for Unitarian Universalist principles and values.
  • The applicant should be able to pass a Florida background check.
  • The applicant is not responsible for room set-up but may need to lift or move tables, chairs, and other objects as needed.
Salary and Benefits
  • $15 /hour, a sum paid by building renters.
  • In addition, the host leader will receive $15 for each event for which a host is needed, as compensation for the time spent lining up a host to handle the event.
