In the larger Unitarian Universalist movement, there is a need for leadership development teams, not just nominating committees. At some churches they are also called “volunteer development” teams.
In response to committee chair needs and with First Unitarian Church of Orlando (1U) Board of Trustees approval, a new Leadership Development team was formed in June 2019 with a temporary charter that was designed by Rev. Kathy Schmitz.
Our main role is to provide new and existing committee chairs and other lay leaders with support and training. We also help church members discern their special gifts and talents and how they might use them to engage with the mission and vision of the congregation. Furthermore, we help church members find which small groups and opportunities they most would like to participate in.
We’re happy to help get you connected to congregational life at 1U!
Would you like to join the Leadership Development team talent pool? Have special skills to share? Or just want us to help you get connected to volunteer opportunities in other church groups? Have an idea for a new program or group?
We can assist you! Contact us at leadershipdevelopment@orlandouu.org and let us know your interests.
