Welcome to the New Year at First Unitarian!
Crafty Crafters’ Circle – 6:30pm, Room 9
Church members and friends gather to talk, sew, weave, craft, share, philosophize and just generally enjoy the heck out of everyone’s company until 8:30pm. All are welcome! BYO crafts, games, and conversation.

Letting Go, Rev. Kathy Schmitz
We begin our new year with a monthly theme of “Letting Go” and ask what we need to let go of to fully live “The Dream.” The Chalice Choir will sing. Children’s Religious Education resumes with a Super Sunday gathering.

9:30am in the Library – Meditation in the Vipassana tradition, led by Bob Leger.
9:30am in Room 18 – Pagan Paths: “The Kemetic Path,” led by Lesley Horwarth.
11:15 in the Assembly Room – SUUper Sunday with Children’s Religious Education: Join the kids to explore UU principles and have some fun.

Caring Circle Communications Chat – 12:30pm, Assembly Room
Ongoing and new participants in the Caring Circle are invited to a discussion of the role of the Caring Circle in helping church members in times of need and ways to be involved. Refreshments will be served. Kathy Homblette and Jenny Lockington will facilitate. RSVP to caringcircle@Orlandouu.org.
VegCF Potluck – 7:00pm, Gore Hall
For those curious about the vegan lifestyle, the Green Team is pleased to host this VegCF gathering ending at 9:00pm. Join us with a vegan dish and prepare to sample the yummies!
The Alliance – 9:00am, Gore Hall
This is a bring-your-own lunch day.
The Alliance has an urgent request for pant or skirt hangers. Preferred is a swivel hook with clothespin style pinchers at either end of the hanger. We will accept all skirt or pants hangers as our shortage is acute. Plastic or wood is just fine. Please, no other types of hangers at this time. Many thanks to the generous hearts who help us in so many requests.

Come be a part of a wonderful journey as we share one breath, one body, one mind at 1U. Class is open to all.
Band Practice – 7:00pm, Sanctuary
Life with God – 7:15pm, Hiett Library
Our Life with God group gathers in the Library the first Tuesday of the month from 7:15 to 8:30 pm. This evolving group is for folks who wish to explore a deeper understanding of, or relationship with, God. Bring your passions and your struggles as we consider together the meaning and beauty to be found in this relationship. All are welcome at this drop in group. Rev. Kathy facilitates.
Energy Medicine Study Group – 7:15pm, Assembly Room
Have you always wondered what energy medicine is all about? Do you want to learn and practice easy techniques to keep you happy and healthy? This free study group is open to everyone and will be based on Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine practices. The book is used for reference and will be available for purchase at each class for cost ($17.95). We will meet the first Tuesday of each month in the Assembly Room (note that there will be no meeting in February, but we will have 2 meetings in January on 1/7 and 1/28). Each class will include the daily energy routine and more, so drop in or attend them all! Class concludes at 9:00pm. Class leader: Patrice McFadin. Questions or need more information? The Chalice Choir rehearses until 8:30pm under the direction of Aubrey Connelly.
Meditation Group – 7:00pm, Gore Hall
An open, ongoing meditation group offered free of charge each week. All are welcome, no registration required.
Life Transitions Class – 7:00pm, Community Room (Room 18 of the Enrichment Center)

1U members are encouraged to consider signing up for the next year of Covenant Groups, which begin in March. These once a month gatherings are a great way get to know others in the congregation and to discover more about yourself. More info here.

Kierstin Homblette to be Ordained – A Gift from the Congregation
Kierstin Homblette was raised at 1U and is the daughter of 1U members Kathy & Dan Homblette. She will be ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister in Denver on Jan. 18. At that time, 1U will be presenting Kierstin with her first stole. If you would like to make a financial contribution toward this gift, you may place your clearly marked check in the offering basket or mail it to the office. Please contact Rev. Share the Plate Update
Our next opportunity to Share the Plate will be Jan. 26, when our beneficiary will be Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida (IA), http://interfaithact.org. IA is a network of people of faith and religious institutions that works in partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), http://ciw-online.org.

Join us to tend to our new landscape garden and other maintenance and repairs on our Church campus until noon. We meet every second Saturday of the month.
January 12 – Meet and Greet With Our Minister, 12:15, Hiett Library in Gore Hall
Are you a newcomer to our church? Would you like to meet our minister, Reverend Kathy Schmitz, learn more about Unitarian Universalism, and get answers to any questions you may have? If so, the Membership Team invites you to attend a one-hour Meet and Greet with Our Minister (formerly called Newcomer Orientation).
January 12 – Interfaith MLK Celebration, 5:00pm, Carpools Meet in 1U Parking Lot
Join others from 1U as we participate in the City of Orlando’s annual interfaith celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Carpools will leave 1U at 5:00pm to join the gathering at City Hall at 5:30pm. A “candlelight” procession will leave City Hall at 6:00 headed to First United Methodist Church for the service. This year’s theme is “The Words of Enemies and the Silence of Friends.” Rev. Kathy will deliver the Call to Action and Benediction. Check out the other events around the city here.
