Building Update:

We are delighted to share that Marty Haynie has stepped up to lead the efforts of the Capital Campaign that goes along with our Building Initiative. Marty, if you don’t know her, is the Orange County Comptroller. Information about her can be found here. Marty will be part of the finance committee with John Hartgering, Dan Homblette and Ken Lofgren and will provide the leadership that is so critical for running a successful Capital Campaign.

The deadline for architects to send proposals for how they would approach our building is March 3. The Building Steering Committee will review them and give recommendations to the Board at the meeting on March 10. Then we will share those at the Congregational Meeting on March 16. After that, look for small group meetings to discuss the proposals and start talking about the possibilities. If you haven’t read it yet, we encourage you to read the Request for Proposal (RFP) that we sent to five architects. You can find the link here. At any time, comments and questions can be sent to BldgCommunications@OrlandoUU.org.

Share the Plate Update

We collected a total of $1065.85 for Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando (PPGO) last Sunday. Our next opportunity to Share the Plate will be March 23, when our beneficiary will be The Hope CommUnity Center (HCC).

Why are some folks going to a “Created Equal” film and panel discussion in Sanford on February 28? And, why are others marking March 15 on their calendar for a Lakeland trip? If you want to know sooner–or to share easily, join the 1U Justice googlegroup. To quickly receive and share listings about Justice events in central Florida and beyond, email your request to join 1U Justice googlegroup. Include name and e-mail address that you want used.

Pastoral Care Associates

Pastoral Care Associates are fellow 1U members who have been especially trained to provide a confidential, caring presence to congregants undergoing stressful life challenges. Through this minister-extending program, members can receive compassionate care when they are in pain, sick, lonely or struggling with changes.  It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support.   If you are in need, contact our Pastoral Care Associates Coordinator Harriett Smithson.
