Through this minister-extending program, members can receive compassionate care when they are in pain, sick, lonely or struggling with changes.  It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support.   If you are in need, contact our Pastoral Care Associates Coordinator Harriett Smithson.

1U will switch to our Summer Worship Schedule a couple of weeks earlier than usual. We have normally switched on the third week of May. June 8 – Child Dedication Ceremony Scheduling

A Child Dedication Ceremony will be held during our intergenerational service on Sunday, June 8. This is the Unitarian Universalist ceremony by which we name and welcome our children. While typically involving infants, it is also quite common to include older children when they are new to the community. If you would like your child to be included in the ceremony, please let Rev. Kathy know at minister@orlandouu.org. This service will also be our Flower Communion celebrating the end of the Program Year.

If we are lucky we have internal resources to keep us going through the most challenging times. But—especially at 1U—we can also reach out to others for hope and courage when we are depleted, discouraged, worn down—N. Wileden

Together we walk, cry, argue, love, need, nurture, mourn, smile, live, worship, care, carry on—P. Reynolds (quoting from a Tommy Harrison poem “This Life.”)

Often what’s wanted is NOT advice, but to be understood, to have our feelings validated. Then catharsis begins—H. Smithson

I have learned that whenever we open our hearts, truly open our hearts to hear and to know another person, we give them a gift and are deeply rewarded in return. I thought I was giving, but instead I have received—K. Homblette

Often it is difficult to ask for–or accept–help. We don’t know what we need. We imagine we should be strong enough to manage. I can never “pay back” all that has been given to me, but I “pay forward” the gift of presence—B. Smithson

We can never be sure how our companionship and service will be an agent of hope and healing. Sometimes the things that we least expect to be helpful will be the things most remembered—M. Haddad (quoting Jay E. Abernathy, Jr.)
