Seeds of Intention Workshop – 9:30 am, Assembly Room

Lammas or Lughnasadh is the cross-quarter holiday on the Celtic calendar which marks the midpoint between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox. Some of the seeds we planted at Imbolc are ready for harvest. We assess the progress that we’ve made in nurturing our endeavors, and we plan for future harvests, which will sustain us through the dark months of winter.

In this workshop, we honor the sacrifice of Lugh, representing that which goes before us to offer support and guidance as the days grow shorter. As we follow his lead, we prepare ourselves for a day in the distant future when we will be called to the underworld. We are talking about death, but not in the sorrowful sense. Two themes rose from my end of life studies last year, and one is that if we carry an umbrella, we are less likely to need it, and two, if we knew our days were numbered, we would live more fully each day that remains.

Registration begins at 9:30 am. Supplies and a light lunch will be provided. Please dress for comfort and bring your own beverage (water, coffee, and tea provided) and your journal, if you’d like to write about what comes up for you. The cost for this event is $65 per person/$50 for 1U Members (Cash at Registration or Paypal: Melmagick@gmail.com). SPACE IS LIMITED. Please RSVP only if you can commit to the full day. Come grow with us! Sponsored by the 1U Pastoral Associates.

6:15 pm “Meet and Greet” in living room area off the foyer. Learn about Unitarian Univeralism, Paganism, Mystic Grove, First Unitarian, what to expect at a ritual, and more!

7:00 pm – Ritual by Lesley, 8:00 pm Potluck. Clean up at 9. As a kindness to others, please be sure your dish is labeled with name of dish, name of cook, and any allergenic ingredients. RSVP: https://www.facebook.com/events/577754079386472/.

Will You Be ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ During Hurricane Season?

If you want help, or can help others, contact the Caring Circle: CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org.

Caring Circle

Members of the Caring Circle offer kind, practical, tangible efforts to church members who may be experiencing significant joys, concerns, sorrows, or changes in their lives. Those who volunteer to be Monthly Coordinators follow up on Joys and Concerns expressed in Sunday worship, as well as notices from the minister or other church members about short-term circumstances that may need attention. Other Caring Circle members may serve on occasion by providing one or more of the following: phone calls, greeting cards, rides to church events or medical appointments, and/or help with meals, pet care, etc., during a member’s period of recuperation.  Please contact our CC coordinator, Linda Piantieri at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org for details or to participate in this ministry of our community who care about, and for each other.  CC contact for August is Linda Piantieri, who may be reached at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org.

Pastoral Care Associates

These can be challenging and difficult times as we try to understand what is happening in the world and how it relates to our personal lives. It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support. Pastoral Care Associates are fellow 1U members who have been especially trained to provide a confidential, caring presence to congregants undergoing stressful life challenges. Through this minister-extending program, members can receive compassionate care when they are in pain, sick, lonely or struggling with changes. If you are a 1U member in need, contact our Pastoral Care Coordinator at pastoralassociates@OrlandoUU.org.

It is also vital that current information is available for electronic banking arrangements. Contact Amy Fairweather at churchadministrator@orlandouu.org or call the church office at 407-898-3621.
