First Sunday Fellowship
The first Sunday of the month means there is a standing date: a chance to socialize with 1U friends at a 1st Sunday Fellowship event. 1U members and friends gather in various parts of Orlando (Conway, Winter Park, East of the 417, Downtown/Delaney Park, West Orange County, and South Orlando, so far) for neighborhood connections on the first Sunday of the month. These are opportunities for social interactions, a meal and/or beverage, and the chance to expand relationships. Unlike “Dinner with Friends,” groups are meeting at neighborhood restaurants, not individual homes. To learn more or find a group near (or far from you), contact Kathy Homblette at Fellowship@orlandouu.org. Times and locations vary, especially since this Sunday falls on New Years Day.

Update Your Contact Information!
Keeping in touch with 1U members and friends is important. You can help keep those communication lines functioning by alerting the office about changes in your contact information: email address, street address, preferred phone numbers. Having current contact information allows 1U to keep you in the loop with all kinds of information about events. It is also vital that current information is available for electronic banking arrangements. Contact Amy Fairweather at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the church office at 407-898-3621. We appreciate your help with this!

Here we discuss how the past ritual went, plan for next ritual, classes, craft circles, and more. Lunch at a nearby restaurant follows for those wanting to enjoy fellowship after the meeting. January 8 – Martin Luther King Service & Youth Choir, 5:15 pm Carpools from 1U; Service begins 5:30 pm, Orlando City Hall
It’s been a difficult year in central Florida, the nation, and the world. That makes this year’s annual interfaith/multicultural celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. all the more significant. With our community still raw from the attack on Pulse nightclub and an acrimonious and seemingly endless political campaign, working toward Dr. King’s vision of “a beloved community” is all the more urgent. In cooperation with the Orlando Mayor’s Commission on the Martin Luther King Holiday, ICCF coordinates a one-hour program at a downtown house of worship. As we do each year, we will gather at Orlando City Hall, then march in procession at 6:00 pm to First Presbyterian Church for the program, beginning at 6:30 pm. As part of the program, we are reviving “Everybody’s Children” a non-audition community chorus for middle school and high school children.
January 11 – Issues & Actions Session 1, 6:00 pm, Gore Hall
Join us for a light dinner, a time of centering, and a timely program. Taking place the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, each session has a short issue update, a short action/advocacy tool presentation and an interactive session where we work in small groups to practice putting the action of the evening to use in service of the issue of the evening. Free & open to the public. Donations welcome. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by 1U Central for info or to volunteer. Issues and actions will be announced in advance.

Food and chat to follow. Questions and RSVP: email@example.com. Please let us know how many and if you will need a yoga mat.
January 27 – Beloved Conversation: Meditations on Race and Ethnicity (Signup Deadline: January 20)
As we seek to build beloved community and bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice, there is much that we can do to prepare ourselves for the work. Participation in Beloved Conversations is one thing we can do. The 22 First Unitarian members who completed the process last year were very moved. This included longtime activists as well as those new to the work. You can read a little about the program here (click on the first blue bar under the videos).
This year, as a way of reaching out, we are doing the program as a “cluster” with University UU Society (Triple U or UUUS) in East Orlando and the UU Fellowship of Marion County (UUFMC). Each congregation will have one group of 8-10 participants.
· Alison Issen and Joe Donatone will be the facilitators for the 1U group (taking 2 of the 10 possible spots)
· The facilitators will be supported by an organizing team made up of Patrice McFadin, Sandy Pollock, and Laura Smith, all of whom participated last year.
· The opening retreat will be at UUFMC on Friday evening and most of Saturday, January 27 & 28. Attendance is required as part of participation. (It is about 1 hour 15 minutes away from 1U in Summerfield, near the Villages). UUFMC hopes to offer home hospitality for the 1U & UUUS.
· Participants are expected to attend all sessions as they build on each other. We realize that emergencies or illness may intervene. If a person misses a second session, no matter how worthy the reason, they will be asked to wait and take the program again in the future.
· The 8 weekly sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings January 31 through March 28 (skipping Valentine’s Day)
· One session, to which speakers from the community are invited, will likely be scheduled as a joint sessions with UUUS.
Please let our Program Assistant, Gaby (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you would like to participate. If we have more interest than spots we will create a waiting list.

Pastoral Care Associates
These can be challenging and difficult times as we try to understand what is happening in the world and how it relates to our personal lives. The holiday season can also cause stress and painful emotions. It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support. If you are in need, contact our Pastoral Care Coordinator at pastoralassociates@OrlandoUU.org.
