Annual Florida District Choral Festival – 11:00 am, Gainesville UU Fellowship Sanctuary
Combined choirs from around the state will perform at the 11:00 am service in Gainesville. A few members from 1U’s Chalice Choir are participating. All are invited to drive up and attend the service!

Love Tree Collections End Today to help support New Image Youth Center
Have you seen the “Love Tree” on stage in Gore Hall? The Children have created valentine decorations for the tree which list items for donation to the New Image Youth Center (NIYC) of Parramore. Help support this worthy organization by taking a decoration home with you and donating the item listed. Simply drop the donation underneath the tree during the month of February. The children of 1U will deliver the donated items to the children at the NIYC.

9:30 am in the Library: With One Voice Part 1, with Bob Leger (Learn more)
With One Voice brings together mystics from fourteen different spiritual traditions to share their perspectives on the unifying truth that transcends all religions. In this 78-minute documentary these awakened teachers address profound questions about life and love, the existence of God, the path to spiritual awakening and the way to true peace in the world. Through their words and compelling presence they ask us to look within our own hearts and listen deeply so we too can join the conversation and speak With One Voice. Part 2 will be March 27. We’ll show 40 minutes at each session with discussion after.

Are you a newcomer to our church? Would you like to meet our minister, Reverend Kathy Schmitz, learn more about Unitarian Universalism, and get answers to any questions you may have? If so, the Membership Team invites you to attend a one-hour Meet and Greet.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Silent Auction Thru March 13
We will be holding a continuous silent auction for 2 tickets (donated by a 1U member) to Orlando Ballet’s March 20th 2:00 pm performance of Don Quixote at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. These seats are orchestra center and typically cost $81.75 each. We will sell take silent auction bids until March 13, when we will announce the winners at 1:00 PM during coffee hour. Proceeds will be donated to Building the Dream fund. Any Sunday during coffee hour you can head to Gaby’s table and place your auction bid, or email her at email@example.com.

Where did the America we know today—so different in its fundamental views about almost every aspect of life as to be unrecognizable to our countrymen of two centuries ago—really come from?Join us for this “drop-in” friendly class. This class is based on DVDs from the Great Courses. Come for the ones you can attend or the whole series!
Bending the Arc Info Session – March 13
Join Rev. Kathy in the Hiett Library at 12:30 pm to learn about the emerging Bending the Arc Institute: A Learning Community for Social Engagement. The program is tentatively schedule to kick off in early 2017 after the renovations on our campus are complete. This conversation will include a 20-minute presentation by Rev. Kathy followed by a time for questions and conversation.
Share the Plate Update
We collected a total of $1,031 for the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Alliance for Fair Food through our Share the Plate program on Sunday, February 21. Our next beneficiary will be Samaritan Resource Center (SRC), a coalition of churches in East Orlando that works with Orange County social service agencies to help East Orange County residents who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness.

General Assembly Delegates (Deadline: March 13)
Are you interested in representing 1U at the UUA General Assembley in Columbus, OH, this June? Delegates will meet to learn of the congregation’s input, represent the congregation during the business of the Association, attend learning and enrichment events, and report back to the congregation on the experience. Minister’s Day Off
Rev. Kathy is changing her day off to Fridays. Thursday will be her writing day, which means she will typically be focused on worship preparation. Therefore, her most available days (aside from Sunday) will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Spring Welcome Home Wednesday – Save the Date!
Our Spring Welcome Home Wednesday series is scheduled for six sessions, March 30 through May 4. There will be new classes as well as some other updates to the program. We’ll continue the same basic schedule with a time to eat together, worship, and take classes, as well as childcare. We expect the new brochure with all the details to be available by February 28.

Food Pantry Need Growing – Please Help!
There is an increasing, urgent need for food at the pantry we support. Most-needed items: ⊕ canned goods, including: Meat (tuna, chicken, etc.), soups (beef stew, chicken noodle, etc.), veggies (green beans, corn, etc.), fruit (peaches, pears, etc.) ⊕ pasta (whole wheat) ⊕ rice and beans ⊕ dry cereal ⊕ shelf stable milk ⊕ peanut butter. Items that are easy for children to open are preferred. No glass items, please. Please gather what you can and bring it with you on Sunday. The box is in Gore Hall. Thanks for your continued generosity.

Keeping in touch with 1U members and friends is important. You can help keep those communication lines functioning by alerting the office about changes in your contact information: email address, street address, preferred phone numbers. Having current contact information allows 1U to keep you in the loop with all kinds of information about events. Fair Trade Goods Every Sunday – Noon, Gore Hall
Fair Trade coffee and other goods are available Sundays at the back of Gore Hall after the 11:00 service. Sales of coffee, chocolate and tea benefit small independent growers, UUSC and our church. Think about these as thoughtful gifts!

March 6 – Mystic Grove 1st Sunday Monthly Meeting, 12:30 pm, EC Room 9
The Mystic Grove is an eclectic Pagan group affiliated with 1U. The monthly meeting is a great way to get to know us and how we work. Everyone is welcome to attend! Here we discuss how the past ritual went, plan for next ritual, classes, craft circles, and more. Lunch at a nearby restaurant follows for those wanting to enjoy fellowship after the meeting. March 12 – CIW Annual Fair Food Program Tour Finale, 9:00 am, Palm Beach
This will be the culminating event of Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ (CIW) Workers’ Voice Tour which will be a multi-city tour along the eastern seaboard. Plans are for a bus leaving Orlando at 9:00 am, returning 8:00 pm-ish. Mark your calendar. We are asking for a $10 donation from those interested in attending, but we won’t turn anyone away who cannot pay. There will be a bucket in Gore Hall during social hour for donations (please make checks payable to 1U). Not able to attend but would like to sponsor a seat for someone? Please let us know.The trip is a collaboration of 1U, UUU, and multiple social justice advocacy groups in the Central Florida area. Additional questions or concerns? April 1 & 2 – Spring Journey to Membership Workshop
Would you like to become a 1U member? If so, please register by email at Members@orlandouu.org to reserve a space in the two-session Journey to Membership Workshop (7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday 4/1 and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday 4/2 in the Hiett Library). In the workshop Reverend Kathy will tell participants about the history, philosophy, and practices of Unitarian Universalism, and church leaders will share information about our congregation. Those who complete the workshop will be invited to meet church leaders at a New Member Potluck on Friday, April 15, and they will be welcomed into the congregation at a ceremony during the worship service on Sunday, April 17.

Welcome Team tasks range from greeting folks to handing out Orders of Service through collecting the offering to making coffee. All directions for each task are provided. Pastoral Care Associates
Pastoral Care Associates are fellow 1U members who have been especially trained to provide a confidential, caring presence to congregants undergoing stressful life challenges. Through this minister-extending program, members can receive compassionate care when they are in pain, sick, lonely or struggling with changes. It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support. 1U Caring Circle
Members of the Caring Circle offer kind, practical, tangible efforts to other church members who may be experiencing significant joys, concerns, sorrows, or changes in their lives. Monthly contact people follow up on Joys and Concerns expressed in Sunday worship, as well as notices from the minister or other church members, about short-term circumstances that may need attention. Other members serve in providing phone calls, greeting cards, rides to church events, medical appointments, meals for a while, pet care, etc. Please contact our Caring Circle coordinator Jenny Lockington at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org for details or to participate.

Become a Home Hospitality Host
On occasion, 1U has the opportunity to host other UUs for events like District Assembly, Choir Festival, District meetings, and other events. Some of our fellow UUs who come into town for a day or two to join us and/or use our facilities appreciate being welcomed into our homes for the night to cut down on hotel expense while getting to know us. If you have space in your home to host a guest or two, please consider joining in this Hospitality offering!
