Wrestling with our Understandings around Race — 12:30 pm, Hiett Library
The events of this year have called our attention to issues of race, and understanding our relationship to those issues. Many of us are wrestling with understanding and responding to our experience, our emotions, and what we are called to do. It can be difficult, and for some of us it is destabilizing. Let us remain open in our hearts to this journey. We anticipate deep conversation within the congregation, and hope for greater understanding, healing and spiritual development. Bring your questions and concerns and join with others in conversation. This is an open meeting, typically on the first Sunday of each month. Ellen Tetlow is the contact.

Building The Dream Update
We are getting very close to the completion of Phase One of our Campus Renovation: the Labyrinth has been laid, fixtures are being installed, the rooms are getting ready for painting and we’re working on the final landscaping details. We are planning on being mostly complete with Phase One by June 19.
PLEASE HELP US MOVE! In order to make the transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2, we need your help! Please plan on joining us on June 10 to pack items from Gore Hall and on June 17 to move items into the new Enrichment Center. Even if you can’t do much, we could really use your help. Plus, you’ll be able to feel involved in this very important moment of our church.
Have questions? Feel free to drop us an email and let us know. Don’t forget that pictures for all the work can be found here. Please feel free to park in the Special Needs lot on the north side of Gore Hall if you have either small children or 4 or more people in your car. Otherwise, please use all of the alternative parking options. Click here for a parking map.
Minister’s Travels in June
Rev. Kathy has three trips slated in June plus the renovation-related office move. This will impact her availability. This coming week would be a good time to get in touch with her if you were thinking of doing so. The trips are: Youth Group Civil Rights Trip, June 6-9; Center for Reproductive Rights Summit in DC, June 14-15 (serving on a panel put together by Organize Florida; and General Assembly including the preceding Ministry Days, June 19-25.
Music Director Jamie Sterrett to Retire
Jamie Sterrett, who has served as 1U’s Music Director for 15 years, is retiring. His last Sunday will be August 13, at which time we will celebrate his service to our community. Meanwhile, we are grateful to have three months’ notice to discern next steps. Whenever a staff person of long standing departs, it is a good time to step back and assess needs going forward. The Personnel Committee and Rev. Kathy are developing a process to engage the congregation in conversation about the hopes and dreams for the program. We encourage everyone to take part and help determine how we can build on the strong and diverse program that is Jamie’s legacy.
Rev. Kathy’s Weekly Contribution to the Central Florida 100
Each week Rev. Kathy is one of 100 Community Leaders in Central Florida commenting on the news of the day. Read last Sunday’s offering here.

The holiday season can also cause stress and painful emotions. It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support. If you are in need, contact our Pastoral Care Coordinator at pastoralassociates@OrlandoUU.org.
