RUUM has been a wonderful model for creating connections for the retired men of the church, and now it’s time for 1U women to try something new. This summer, a group of women will be gathering monthly to build community and create opportunities for outings and enrichment. WUURL is the working title for the new group. Women UUs Relishing Life? Women UUs Really Living? Ok, so the name might need some tweaking. Join in the conversation as we explore options.
Who? 1U women – members and friends
When? 4th Monday of each month, beginning May 22, 11:30 am – 1:00pm
Where? Gore Hall at 1st Unitarian Church of Orlando
Why? To build community, to explore fun opportunities, to enrich lives
Bring? a lunch; beverages will be provided.
WUURL is an experiment to see if there is interest and energy in a group of women who would like to get together, get to know one another better. It might grow into more/other opportunities, who knows? For now, space is reserved at 1U for this group from May through September. Interested? Give it a WUURL! Questions? contact Fellowship@Orlandouu.org.
Building The Dream Construction Update and Pix
Last week, the Building The Dream Team, staff, Board of Trustees and Endowment Board welcomed MPaul Contractors and all of the subcontractors that were on site that day for a barbecue lunch to show our appreciation. We had a full spread for them and got to tell them how grateful we were for their work and how we as a congregation were thinking about them as they worked so hard in building our dream. There are pictures of the event here.
Last Sunday we also got to give three tours of the Enrichment Center and Common Area to congregation members. MPaul and our team heard very enthusiastic responses such as “It is clear that the contractor has a passion and love for the project.” “Love the new volunteer space.” “The common area is fabulous.” “Wow! The cleaned roofs look wonderful.” “Love the renovated bathrooms!”
Thanks to your amazing response, the pavers for the labyrinth will be coming in this week. We are picking out paint colors and finalizing other details with the MPaul team. Photos of this week’s construction are here.
Please don’t hesitate to drop us an email to should you have any questions. Please feel free to park in the Special Needs lot on the north side of Gore Hall if you have either small children or 4 or more people in your car. Otherwise, please use all of the alternative parking options. Click here for a parking map.
Share The Plate Update
Congratulations!— on Religious Education Sunday, you gave $1,040 to New Image Youth Center (NIYC) through Share the Plate. That brings our total of money raised for local charities and non-profits to $14,221.79 for the 2016-2017 church year. Look for more information at the Opportunity Fiestas in August if you have a favorite charity or non-profit in mind for next year’s Share the Plate!

Ongoing Activities, Needs & Resources
Pastoral Care Associates
These can be challenging and difficult times as we try to understand what is happening in the world and how it relates to our personal lives. The holiday season can also cause stress and painful emotions. It can be comforting to know you’re not alone and it helps to have someone from 1U’s faith community listen, care, and offer support. If you are in need, contact our Pastoral Care Coordinator at pastoralassociates@OrlandoUU.org.

First Sunday Fellowship
1U members and friends gather in various parts of Orlando (Winter Park, East of 436, Downtown, West Orlando, Conway, South Orlando, so far) for neighborhood connections. These are opportunities for social interactions, a meal and/or beverage, and the chance to expand relationships. Unlike “Dinner with Friends,” groups are meeting at neighborhood restaurants, not individual homes. If you are interested in learning more or finding a group near you, contact Kathy Homblette at Fellowship@orlandouu.org. Times and locations vary.
