Children & Youth Religious Education (On break until June)

RE is on a programming break until June. All previous weeks of virtual RE are now available at the website and here. RE families: sign up and offer feedback for summer programming here! In the meantime, we are staying connected on Zoom for an informal, 30-minute Family Connection & Support Group.  This week we are trying a new time: 3 pm on Wednesday. Zoom information can be found here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/642808627

Your Care Team

Your Care Team stands ready to help you and to stay connected during these times. We are composed of two teams:

Lay Pastoral Associates provide “buddy” relationships of deep listening and care, to be a companion with you through difficult times. Contact PastoralAssociates@OrlandoUU.org.

The Caring Circle offers practical efforts to church members experiencing significant joys, concerns, sorrows, or changes by providing rides to medical appointments, and/or help with meals, pet care, etc. In May contact Jenny Lockington at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org. For the month of June contact Lynn Rigney at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org.

Joys and Concerns

To share your joys or concerns please contact Gaby Cabrera at programassistant1U@gmail.com

Will you be ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ during Hurricane Season? Contact your hurricane partner NOW and make plans! No hurricane partner? Caring Circle can help you get one. If you want help, or can help others, don’t wait until the winds start to blow. Email CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org.

This past Memorial Day weekend, we remembered those who died while serving in the armed forces. We also remember those currently serving, and those suffering from previous wounds of body or mind from combat.

Nicole, Michael and Maya Deaver welcomed their new baby, Jade, into their family two weeks ago. Maya is happy to be a big sister.

Bob and Janice Leger celebrate 51 years of marriage.

Jeannie Carter has adopted her current foster pug, Molly

We remember those who are ill with the Coronavirus and their families, and those who are lonely in this time of self-isolation.

In-Person Campus Meetings Remain Suspended Through Sept. 1

At its May 18 meeting, your Board voted that in-person meetings at church would remain suspended through Sept. 1, unless circumstances change. Online worship and meetings continue. Also, all visitors on campus must wear a mask if there is another person present and maintain a physical distance of at least six feet. We will continue to evaluate the situation. Whatever the future brings, we will be guided by the common good and safety of our diverse multi-generational church community. As always, reach out to your Board (BOT@orlandouu.org) or Minister (revsam@orlandouu.org) with your concerns, questions or suggestions.

Upcoming Sunday Services

June Worship Theme:  TBA

It’s Nearly Mango Harvest Time

Want some fresh mangos? The mango tree in the 1U parking lot (near the “Park here last” signs) is heavy with fruit. Some of our neighbors have started helping themselves, so you should, too, if you like mangoes that are not quite tree ripened. Please take no more than five per family. In a few days, the 1U Garden team will climb into the tree and haul down as many fully-ripened mangos as we can reach, then set up a drive-by give-away for you. We’re not sure yet on the timing, but we’ll let you know. Watch this space. If you have questions, contact Rene Stutzman.

Second Harvest Share-the-Plate Update

Many of you have already donated to 1U’s online fundraiser for Second Harvest food bank to help the hungry in our area at this difficult time. We are at $15,447, $1,000 of which is the congregation’s half of a matching grant offered last Sunday. (The $1,000 match earned will be included in the early June total.)

If you are able to give (or give again)…any amount, it will be greatly appreciated. For every $10 donated, Second Harvest  can provide 40 meals to kids, seniors, and families in our community. Will you please help our neighbors in need? You may send a check to Amy at the church or give online at https://tinyurl.com/tlk2lcl. Thank you to all who have participated…many more than once.  Feel free to share the Second Harvest giving link with friends: https://tinyurl.com/tlk2lcl.

To Make Offerings

Here are convenient ways for you to continue your generosity during this time:

1U Website – Use the Donate button on the upper right-hand section of the home page and follow the directions.

Text – Simply send a text to 407-456-7082 with the amount you’d like to contribute. Make sure to include the dollar sign before the amount (for example: $50). NOTE: Do not place a space between the dollar sign and the dollar amount. Within a few minutes, you’ll be sent a text with a link to register. Click on the link. Enter your cardholder name, and credit or debit card information. Once your registration is complete, you will receive a text verification and a receipt via email. For future giving, simply send a text with the amount you wish to give, and it will process automatically! For donating to Share the Plate, use the texting code: sharedplate

Let’s ‘UU the Vote’

The new UUA electoral organizing campaign website: “UU the Vote” (uua.org/UUtheVote, https://www.uua.org/liberty/electionreform) provides an Association-wide strategy to help UUs grow and sharpen their skills for faith-based electoral organizing from now until the 2020 election. The Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, UUA President, says “Core UU values of interdependence, democracy, human worth and dignity, the richness of pluralism and diversity, and the inborn right of all people to self-determination and agency are on the line…We are offering a visible alternative to narratives and policies of domination, supremacy, scarcity, and exploitation that threaten and diminish our lives and future. The introductory video may be viewed on the website.
