Double Services – Worship at 9:30 and 11:00 am, Sanctuary

A Prayer of Gratitude, Rev. Kathy Schmitz

We prepare for Thanksgiving with a prayer of gratitude and hope for all people. We will kick off the annual Guest at Your Table from our UU Service Committee (UUSC), Share the Plate with IDIgnity, and consider the restoration of rights for those Florida citizens who have paid their debt to society. The Chalice Choir will perform.

IDignity‘s mission is to help the disadvantaged in Central Florida through the complex steps of getting personal identification: documents like birth certificates, Florida ID cards, and Social Security cards that are essential for anyone to fully take part in American society. Please dig deep to support this very successful effort to empower people seeking to reclaim their lives!

9:30 am in the Community Room:  We learn more about our November Share-the-Plate beneficiary, IDignity, from Anne Taylor, IDignity’s Development Director.

Coffee and donuts, plus inspiring stories of IDignity’s successes, will be the reward for attendance! IDignity’s mission is to help the disadvantaged in Central Florida through the complex steps of getting personal identification—documents like birth certificates, Florida ID cards, and Social Security cards essential for anyone to fully take part in society. Please dig deep to support this very successful effort to empower people seeking to reclaim their lives!  The Community Room is in the northwest corner of the Enrichment Center just past the Assembly Room.

11:00 am in Gore Hall Classroom A: Movie Talk

“Blade Runner” is a movie that illuminates so many of our UU values and yet appears to be “only” a dystopian Sci-Fi flick. What happens to the “inherent worth of every person” when applied to people who aren’t viewed as real people?  In our free and responsible search for truth and meaning, do we get lost by casting ourselves as the lead player in our narrative? Go see Blade Runner 2049.  Then come to discuss this movie from a UU principles perspective.

Monthly Social Justice Connection — 12:30-1:30 pm, Gore Hall Classroom A

In a time of many challenges locally, nationally, and globally, it is good to be together. Join us the third Sunday of each month to share what’s on your mind, make connections, and support one another. Rev. Kathy facilitates.

Open House Appreciation & Photos

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make our Open House a fun and joyful event! We had many volunteers from 1U and our partner groups. They greeted our guests, loaned us games & tents, made donations, created chalices, led activities, baked and dispenses cookies, created great music. Our guests enjoyed an afternoon on our campus and got to know us a little better. A few rain drops didn’t stop us! What a wonderful way to celebrate our renovated campus. To see photos of the 1U Open House, renovated campus and buildings follow this link. Open House celebration shots are first, followed by the buildings and grounds.

Through December, 1U’s Flowers Team decorates the Sanctuary and main meeting rooms with poinsettias that have been purchased en mass. This year, we invite 1U members and friends to add to the December decor. If you are interested, you can participate in these ways:

Donate funds toward the mass purchase of the poinsesttias (suggested donation: $15, all contributions welcomed–leave with Gaby at 1U Central on Sundays; provide your name & email addresss if you want a copy of the purchase receipt).

Donate a potted poinsettia(s) in any size or color you’ve purchased yourself. (This plant will need to be one you are willing to bring to 1U on December 3 and leave until January 7.)

Help Needed for a Family from Puerto Rico

1U Member Steph Garber has adopted a family from Puerto Rico whom she does not know but they need a lot of help as they lost everything but their lives in the recent tragedy. They lived for 21 days in their car until they were able to get here on a humanitarian flight and stay in a hotel paid for by United Way. She has taken a leap of faith and told them she knows a lot of generous people and that we would be happy to help them as they get on their feet with gift cards for gas or groceries or simple restaurants for meals. If you are able to contribute to this project, please let Steph know as she would be very grateful to add your gift cards to others for them. If you prefer to give money she would be happy to buy the gift cards. It is a family of a mom and dad (both mid-30s) and 3 young kids and an adult sister of the dad and grandma (age 71). Thank you for your kindness. You may email Steph at foodbank@orlandouu.org.

Update Your Contact Information!

It is also vital that current information is available for electronic banking arrangements. Contact Amy Fairweather at churchadministrator@orlandouu.org or call the church office at 407-898-3621. 1U Caring Circle

Members of the Caring Circle offer kind, practical, tangible efforts to other church members who may be experiencing significant joys, concerns, sorrows, or changes in their lives. Monthly contact people follow up on Joys and Concerns expressed in Sunday worship, as well as notices from the minister or other church members, about short-term circumstances that may need attention. Other members serve in providing phone calls, greeting cards, rides to church events, medical appointments, meals for a while, pet care, etc. Please contact our Caring Circle coordinator Kathy Homblette at CaringCircle@OrlandoUU.org for details or to participate. Caring Circle contact for this month is Dayle Steakley.

Pastoral Care Associates
